Hulkamania shares thoughts on UFC business model

Posted by: Josh Sanchez

One of the moments that may have had you scratching your head at The Ultimate Fighter 10 Finale was when Hulk Hogan made an appearance with Joe Rogan. “The Hulkster” was there to promote the pro wrestling organization that he is currently heading, Total Non-stop Action or TNA. The organization will hold events on Spike and is going to go head to head with pro wrestling kingpin Vince McMahon and the WWE on Monday nights. Now to the news that matters to us.

Hogan took some time after his appearance to share his thoughts about the UFC. Hogan said, “Well brother, it’s definitely an exciting sport…this crowd is just electric. I have tremendous respect for these dudes who go out there and put it all on the line, they’re amazing athletes.”

He did have some constructive criticism for the top MMA organization as well:

“Dana [White] does a great job, and it’s obviously working, I mean the sport is huge right now compared to a few years ago. But I just think there are little things he could do to improve the show, dude. With a nice entrance way, some pyrotechnics and custom entrance music for his fighters, it would ensure a much more fan friendly environment and allow the fans to better identify the individual fighters. I think small things like that would go a long way in building up some of the lesser known fighters. Just the fact that the crowd [was] chanting ‘boring’ out there during one of the fights speaks volumes [on the current product].”

I have long been a fan of bringing back the days where we had an exciting build up to the fighter entrances. The production of the TUF 10 Finale left a lot to be desired as well. While many people are not thrilled with the connections the general public is making between MMA and pro wrestling, it would serve well to increase production and bring some “flash” to the telecast; especially if the UFC wants to get a network television deal.
