On December 19, Strikeforce will put on an incredible show that will be broadcast on Showtime. The event will be held at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, California.
The card will be headlined by Cung Le (6-0), who returns to the cage after more than a year off, who will take on the heavy-handed Scott Smith (16-6). It is expected to be an exciting stand-up battle that will likely end with someone getting knocked out.
The co-main event features a lightweight title unification bout as champion Josh Thomson meets Gilbert Melendez in a much anticipated match-up.
The rematch was originally set for April 11th, but Thomson suffered a broken leg in practice. The bout was again rescheduled for the the Carano vs. Cyborg card in August, but Thomson re-aggravated his injury. With Thomson unable to fight, Melendez took on the man who gave him his first career loss, Mitsuhiro Ishida. Melendez captured a third-round TKO victory and the Strikeforce interim championship.
