The injuries just keep coming for the UFC. The latest victim is Antonio Rogerio Nogueira, the brother of heavyweight contender Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira.

“Lil Nog,” as he is better known, was set to face Brandon Vera at UFC 109 but he has suffered a broken ankle and will need to withdraw from the bout.

Nogueira was looking to build off of some momentum he gained after the dominating performance he put on against Luiz Cane. Nogueira was establishing himself as a top light-heavyweight contender for Lyoto Machida’s belt before this set back.

Vera is coming off of a loss to Hall of Famer Randy Couture in a bout that many felt Vera should have won.

A replacement opponent for Brandon Vera has not yet been named.

UPDATE: Brandon Vera is now being considered as a potential headliner for UFC Fight Night 21 in Denver. The event is scheduled for March 31. His opponent would be Jon “Bones” Jones.
