Jon Fitch may not be the flashiest fighter in mixed martial arts, however, he is one of the best and perhaps the most immediate threat to champion Georges St. Pierre’s thrown. GSP is set to defend his title at UFC 111 in Newark, New Jersey and Fitch may also be on that card.
MMAMania.com reports:
UFC welterweight stalwart Jon Fitch is currently in discussions to rematch Thiago Alves at UFC 111 from the Prudential Center in Newark, NJ, on March 27, setting up a fantastic 170-pound showdown that will prove once and for all how far both former number one contenders have come since their initial encounter back in 2006.
The two were originally set to have their rematch at UFC 107, but Alves was forced to with drawn after suffering an injury to his knee during training.
Fitch vs. Alves would add to an already stacked UFC 111 card. The event features two title matches and Fitch-Alves would likely have serious title implications.
Here is the current UFC 111 fight card:
* Champ Georges St-Pierre vs. Dan Hardy (for welterweight title)
* Shane Carwin vs. Frank Mir (for interim heavyweight title)
* Jon Fitch vs. Thiago Alves
* Ricardo Almeida vs. TBA
