Fighter Spotlight: Mark Matthews

AUTHOR: | IN: MMA | COMMENTS: None Yet

A goal here at CagePages.com is to cover the latest news in mixed martial arts, but also to highlight some of the most interesting and competitive fighters in the game. Mixed martial arts is continuously growing, and you will find men and women from all over the world testing their skills in a ring or cage. However, it would be hard to find a fighter who tests themselves as hard and as often as Mark Matthews. Matthews is in his first year as a professional and after his fight on December 12th at Gladiator Challenge: Chain Reaction, he will have [...]

Matt Hamill dislocates shoulder vs. Jon Jones

AUTHOR: | IN: MMA, UFC | COMMENTS: None Yet

Matt Hamill scored a  victory at last night’s Ultimate Fighter Finale after Jon Jones was disqualified due to an illegal elbow strike. After the bout, Hamill was in obvious pain as he grasped his shoulder and seemed mentally defeated in the interview. Initial reports suggested that Hamill may have suffered a broken clavicle after a takedown from Jones, but sources close to Hamill’s camp told MMAjunkie.com that Hamill was just taken to the hospital to have his shoulder placed back into socket. “He’s a little bit out of it, but he’ll be alright,” the source told MMAjunkie. A lot of [...]

Nelson, Bocek, Edgar, Veach earn fight-night bonuses

AUTHOR: | IN: MMA | COMMENTS: None Yet

The fight-night bonuses for last night’s Ultimate Fighter Finale have been announced. Each award was worth an additional $25,000 and the winners were Roy “Big Country” Nelson, Mark Bocek, Frankie Edgar, and Matt Veach. In an announcement that lacks any surprise, “Big Country” received the $25,000 Knockout of the Night award. Nelson earned the award with a devastating right hand that dropped fellow Team Rashad teammate, Brendan Schaub. Schaub was dictating the pace early until Big Country took the fight to the ground where he is most comfortable. When the two stood back up Nelson unloaded an overhand right that [...]

Big Country Finally Impresses; Wins TUF 10

AUTHOR: | IN: MMA, TUF, UFC | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

In a night that can only be described as “odd,” the main event concluded with Roy “Big Country” Nelson scoring an impressive KO victory of Brendan “The Hybrid” Schaub to earn The Ultimate Fighter: Heavyweights tournament. Nelson started off the fight slowly. He was taking shots from Brendan Schaub and he seemed to be in trouble on more than one occasion. Nelson took the fight to the ground where he looked for the crucifix position which he so often utilized on the reality series, but Schaub used his exceptional hips and got the fight back to the feet. As the [...]

TUF 11 Coaches Announcement: Chuck Liddell Vs. Tito Ortiz III

AUTHOR: | IN: MMA, UFC | COMMENTS: None Yet

Even if they are two of the most washed-up stars in the UFC, they are also two of the most famous and legendary fighters in the history of MMA. That being said, Dana White’s announcement that the two will coach The Ultimate Fighter Season 11 (185 pounds, middleweights) is a huge bombshell of an announcement. And not only will Chuck Liddell not retire, which he probably should, he’s going to battle Tito Ortiz for a third time. Even though he’s more iced man than Iceman at this point, Chuck’s always got a puncher’s chance. And Tito didn’t look totally done [...]

Matt Mitrione Knocks Big Baby Out Cold

AUTHOR: | IN: MMA, UFC | COMMENTS: None Yet

Hate him or love ‘em (ok, probably hate), but Matt “Meathead” Mitrione has some heavy, heavy hands. UFC head honcho Dana White saw that, and also saw a feud storyline, so he set up Mitrione to fight fellow TUF 10 heavyweight Marcus “Big Baby” Jones. Big Baby looked good early, but he looked stiff and slow on his feet. His stand-up style resembles a mummy. Round one belonged to Jones, as he  tackled Mitrione to the ground repeatedly. But Jones’ dominance would be short lived. In round two, Jones’ piss-poor stand-up and glass jaw caught up with him. Jones came [...]
