The fight night bonuses for UFC 110: Nogueira vs. Velasquez were announced. George Sotiropoulos, Joe Stevenson, Cain Velasquez and Chris Lytle walked away an extra $50,000 a piece.
Main event participant Cain Velasquez earned the second “Knockout of the Night” bonus of his career with a vicious first-round knockout of mixed martial arts legend Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira. Velasquez advanced his record to 8-0 with 7 of his victories coming by way of T(KO).
Velaquez used his advantage in speed as he beat Nogueira to every punch on the feet. The two-time All-American wrestler showed crisp stand-up as he picked apart Big Nog until he dropped the legend with a left-right combo.
In the UFC’s first trip to Australia, the hometown boy George Sotiropoulos earned “Fight of the Night” honors along with Joe Stevenson for their three-round grappling clinic. Sotiropoulos put on an incredible performance for his home crowd as he made easy work of his fellow TUF alum.
The Aussie used his slick jiu-jitsu to keep Stevenson on his back where he would have a clear disadvantage.
Sotiropoulos remains undefeated in the UFC (5-0) and he has only received one loss in his past ten fights — a DQ against DREAM lightweight champion, Shinya Aoki.
“Submission of the Night” was an obvious choice as it went to veteran Chris Lytle. He was the only fighter to win via submission at UFC 110, but it was still an impressive knee-bar victory over Brian Foster.
