It appears that persistence has paid off.
41-year-old boxer James Toney has signed a multi-fight deal with the Ultimate Fighting Championship, according to FiveOuncesOfPain.com, after demanding to talk to UFC president Dana White time and time again. Their first meeting followed UFC 108 and Toney stalked White from that point on.
Toney was getting fed up with negotiations and even lashed out on Dana White as recently as last week.
“Dana White is a straight up ho!” Toney told Fighthype.com. “He makes me a five-fight offer for chump change and said I can’t box anymore if I accept it. He must have lost his damn mind.”
Something must have changed in the past seven days.
The 41-year-old brings a lot of experience with him. As an amateur boxer Toney racked up an impressive record of 31-2, with 29 KO’s. He continued that success on to his professional career where he holds a record of 72-6-3, 2 NC. 44 of his pro wins have come by way of knockout.
Toney is the current NABO and IBA Heavyweight champion and has also held titles in the middleweight division, super middleweight and cruiserweight.
There is no set time table set for Toney’s UFC debut, but his appearance in the octagon will be highly anticipated and will receive a lot of hype.
Fans are already calling for a match with YouTube sensation Kimbo Slice and Dana White, who knows a thing or two about business, will have to strongly consider this potential fight that could draw an astronomical number of pay-per view buys.
