WEC 47: Bowles vs. Cruz took place this past Saturday at the Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio. The event brought in the 5th highest attendance  number in WEC history for the action packed night of fights.

The preliminary bouts stole the show as there were two highlight reel knockouts and two beautiful submissions. There was also a split draw in the Fight of the Night and a unanimous decision in Chad Mendes’ promotional debut.

All three fight night bonuses came from the preliminary card — KO of the Night (Anthony Pettis), Submission of the Night (Scott Jorgensen) and Fight of the Night (Leonard Garcia and George Roop).

On the main card, Miguel Torres was unsuccessful in his return to the cage as Team Alpha Male’s Joseph Benavidez put on a dominating performance. The night also marked the final fight in a legendary career for Jens Pulver and we saw the title switch hands as Brian Bowles failed to answer the bell due to a broken hand, which crowned Dominick Cruz the new champion.

Medical suspensions from the fight card have been announced and here is the official list:

Brian Bowles; indefinite; needs clearance for right hand

Chad George; 60 days; medical

Chad Mendes; 60 days; cut

Danny Castillo; 60 days; KO loss

Courtney Buck; 60 days

Bendy Casimir; 60 days

Miguel Torres; indefintie, needs surgeon’s clearance for cut on forehead
