Reports circulated earlier today that Rich “Ace” Franklin would be headlining UFC 115 in Montreal against Chuck Liddell. MMAjunkie.com had reported that Tito Ortiz, who was set to face Liddell after season 11 of The Ultimate Fighter, was forced to leave taping of the show before it ended. As a result, Franklin stepped in to finish coaching and that is where the Liddell-Franklin talks started.
The rumored Liddell vs. Franklin match is false.
Dana White took to his Twitter account to make sure fans new the true story.
“Not true,” said White. “We are doing Couture vs. Franklin, not Chuckl.” White also added that “nothing happened to Tito” and that he and Tito are “cool.”
Couture is coming off of back to back wins against Brandon Vera and UFC Hall of Famer Mark Coleman. Franklin is looking to get back to his winning ways as he has gone 1-2 in his last three fights. Franklin has been tested harder than any other fighter in the UFC over that stretch facing off against legends Dan Henderson, Wanderlei Silva, and Vitor Belfort.
UFC 115 is scheduled to take place on June 12th at the GM Place in Vancouver, B.C., Canada. Couture vs. Franklin will be the headliner while other notable fighters like Mirko Cro Cop, Wanderlei Silva, and Gilbert Yvel will grace the card.
