Strikeforce Challengers VII will get underway tonight live on Showtime from the Save Mart Center in Fresno, California. The event kicks off a free preview weekend for Showtime and it will be available in 54.4 million households. After all of the chaos from earlier this morning, the storm has settled and Jon Fitch remained on the UFC 111 fight card against Ben Saunders. A surprising source of the news was TMZ.com, who broke the story of Thiago Alves’ CAT scan irregularities. They were also among the first to report Saunders as Fitch’s new opponent. Thiago Alves was forced off of the UFC 111 fight card in Newark, New Jersey when it was discovered that he had an irregularity in his brain during a pre-fight CAT scan. The UFC wasted no time finding a replacement. With Alves off of the card, fellow American Top Team member Ben Saunders asked for the fight with Fitch when he learned the top welterweight was available. With UFC 111 just days away, it has been reported that Thiago Alves — one of the cards main event participants — has been pulled from the card after a pre-fight CAT scan showed the Brazilian has an irregularity in his brain. The news was originally reported by TMZ and their source told them the irregularity involves an artery in the brain. In some excellent news for the mixed martial arts community, MMAMania.com has learned that ESPN’s web show “MMA Live” will be coming to television. Per their report: ESPN’s wildly successful web show “MMA Live” is finally getting the recognition it deserves. MMAmania.com has learned that host Jon Anik along with analysts Franklin McNeil and Kenny Florian will soon bring their mixed martial arts news, highlights and analysis to the world’s biggest sports network on ESPN2. UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva is widely regarded as one of the top three pound-for-pound fighters in mixed martial arts.
