The Ultimate Fighting Championship made it’s debut on the Versus network tonight with an action pack card that saw all four main card bouts end by way of stoppage. It was an odd night, but one that saw the two of the sports brightest young stars continue to rise their stock. Middleweight contender Nate Marquardt was offered a bout at UFC 114 which would have put him in the cage against British star Michael Bisping, Fighters Only reports. “They offered me Bisping for May 29th but I have a baby due on May 27th so I turned it down. I don’t want to have any regrets in life, like ‘Man, I missed my kid’s birth,’” Marquardt told today’s Fight Club Q & A session. Former UFC heavyweight champion Pedro Rizzo (17-9) announced on his Twitter account last Thursday that he would be returning to the ring in May. TATAME.com has learned that Rizzo’s mixed martial arts return will be in Washington against former UFC, K-1, and PRIDE veteran Gary Goodridge (23-20-1). The event does not yet have a name, but it will be promoted by referee Mario Yamasaki. “We signed with a lot of people, but the main event is Pedro Rizzo versus Gary Goodridge,” Yamasaki told TATAME. This will be Yamasaki’s second time serving as a promoter in Washington.

The UFC’s Versus debut will be coming live out of the 1STBANK Center in Broomfield, Colorado. Strikeforce challenger Erin Toughill was expected to get the next crack at champion Cris “Cyborg’s” 145-pound title, but for unknown reasons, Toughill is no longer a part of the organization and her title bout with Cyborg has been called off. “You are hearing it first: I will no longer be fighting for Strikeforce,” the top contender announced on her Facebook page.
