The long anticipated rematch between American Top Team standout Thiago Alves and top welterweight Jon Fitch has been postponed once again. The bout is scheduled to take place at UFC 117, which is expected to take place in Oakland.
Alves had brain surgery to separate an artery from a vein in his brain. The irregularity forced “The Pitbull” out of the earlier scheduling at UFC 111 in New Jersey. Alves has not fought since UFC 100 when he dropped a match to champion Georges St. Pierre.
MMAFighting confirmed the rescheduled date.
“Making sure Alves is 1000 percent healthy,” UFC president Dana White said via text message.
The two top-ranked 170-pounders previously fought in 2006 with Fitch earning a second-round TKO victory.
