The HP Pavilion in San Jose, California will play host to tonight’s Strikeforce/M-1 Global event, “Fedor vs. Werdum.” Fedor is one of the top pound-for-pound fighters in the sport and widely regarded as the best heavyweight on the planet. His challenger tonight, Fabricio Werdum, will enter the cage as a heavy underdog despite being a top ten talent in the heavyweight division. Fan-favorite and mixed martial arts legend Wanderlei Silva was scheduled to face Japanese superstar Yoshihiro Akiyama at the upcoming “UFC 116: Lesnar vs. Carwin” on July 3rd. Silva is coming off of a win against Michael Bisping, but he suffered fractured ribs during training and has been forced to withdraw from his bout. Akiyama will remain on the fight card. Last night, Court McGee became the latest mixed martial artist to be crowned winner of The Ultimate Fighter reality series. McGee earned the title after making easy work over Kris “Savage” McCray. McGee was dominant for the duration of round one before he sunk in a rear-naked choke and forced McCray to tapout at the 3:41 mark in round two. The Pearl at the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas, Nevada will be hosting the finale for season eleven of The Ultimate Fighter.
