AUTHOR: | IN: MMA | COMMENTS: None Yet

The Ultimate Fighting Championship did not fail to deliver when it came to this weekend’s “UFC 121: Lesnar vs. Velasquez” fight card. UFC 121 was stacked from head to toe on paper, and the action lived up to it’s potential. People who put their money down on this pay-per view were highly rewarded. Viewers were not the only ones rewarded. Newly crowned heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez, Diego Sanchez, Paulo Thiago, and Daniel Roberta all received the $70,000 fight night bonuses following their performances. Velasquez earned “Knockout of the Night” bonus after he easily disposed of former UFC champion Brock Lesnar. [...]

Velasquez Destroys Lesnar To Become New UFC Champ

AUTHOR: | IN: MMA | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

The highly anticipated heavyweight showdown between Brock Lesnar and Cain Velasquez was an incredibly exciting bout. While the fight only lasted four minutes and one second, it was full of non-stop action that left you yelling at your television in joy (if you were a Velasquez fan) or in horror (if you were rooting for Lesnar). Let me start by saying that what you are about to read may be completely biased, but in a time when people were doubting Cain Velasquez so much… I feel like it almost deserves an “I told you so.” It was no surprise to [...]

Headlining the event is a highly anticipated heavyweight championship battle between champion Brock Lesnar and number one contender Cain Velasquez. Inspecting The Cardio And Power Of Cain Velasquez

AUTHOR: | IN: MMA | COMMENTS: None Yet

We have all heard about UFC heavyweight contender Cain Velasquez’s incredible cardio and you will never hear anyone question it. If Velasquez is going to take down UFC champion Brock Lesnar tomorrow night in Anaheim, he will need to use every bit of his stamina to wear down the champ. One myth that seems to follow around Velasquez though is his punching power. Many people claim that Velasquez has “pillow fists” — meaning his punches lack any power. A look at his devastating knockout over mixed martial arts legend Minotauro Nogueira may lead you to belive otherwise. ESPN’s Sports Science [...]

The Primest Of Times

AUTHOR: | IN: MMA | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

As I’ve said before, I’m a total mark for the UFC countdown shows.  Obviously that extends to the “Primetime” series as well.  The UFC really does an excellent job at preparing the casual viewer for their fights.  Even though I am most definitely NOT a casual viewer, I still admire the effort.  Anything that makes it easier for new fans to embrace MMA is aces in my book.  Plus I like watching basically any video I can find of these guys.  If there was a video somewhere of Paul Buentello taking a dump I’d probably watch it.  This Primetime series [...]

Lesnar Reveals Critical Information Regarding Velasquez Fight

AUTHOR: | IN: MMA | COMMENTS: None Yet

As the hours count down to UFC 121, heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar continues to get bombarded by questions regarding his upcoming fight and opponent Cain Velasquez. The latest news that Lesnar revealed may be the most important. He will continue to sport his caveman beard for the Velasquez fighter. “I finally hit puberty and I just wanted to try one … No, It’s wintertime, I’m going hunting, and I’m from Minnesota. It’s that time of year. We just grow beards,” joked Lesnar. The decision will allow Lesnar to continue looking like a ridiculous wanna-be Viking. Perhaps the beard will serve [...]

Let’s Enjoy UFC 121 For What It Really Is

AUTHOR: | IN: MMA | COMMENTS: 2 Comments

This weekend one of the most intriguing and exciting heavyweight battles in UFC heavyweight history will be taking place when champion Brock Lesnar faces off against American Kickboxing Academy’s prized heavyweight, Cain Velasquez. The organization has been marketing this event like crazy and when the pay-per view numbers come in for UFC 121, I expect them to be well over a million buys. It may sound absurd to criticize the UFC’s promotion of Lesnar vs. Velasquez, but I am going to do just that. Instead of focusing on the skill of these warriors, Zuffa is focusing on the ethnicity of Velasquez. The [...]

There Will Always Be an Overeem

AUTHOR: | IN: MMA | COMMENTS: 2 Comments

One of the more hilarious ways that EA has marketed their new MMA branded video game (which is supposedly great and I am debating whether or not to pick up) is with their admittedly awesome Create a Fighter feature. This in itself isn’t hilarious, but its the way they go about it. Sprinkled across youtube are videos (with no linkable affiliation to EA of course) of EA licensed fighters taking on Create a Fighter versions of their UFC counter parts. Hilariously and predictably all of the EA fighters smash their Zuffa counterparts into a Charlie Kelly approved jelly. In fact, [...]

Jose Aldo Reports On His Next Possible Opponent

AUTHOR: | IN: MMA | COMMENTS: 2 Comments

WEC featherweight champion Jose Aldo said today that he may have a fight lined up for a yet-to-be announced January event. The event would likely be WEC 54 and take place in Phoenix, Arizona. The possible oppenent’s trainer, Shawn Tompkins, reports his fighter is still in a cast and recovering from a broken hand. However, Tompkins goes on to say that if the unnamed fighter is cleared by an orthopedic surgeon the bout could be scheduled within the next few weeks. The WEC has already tentatively scheduled the bout. Who is Aldo’s next potential opponent? *drumroll* Mark Hominick… anti-climactic, right? [...]

A Brief Love Note to Carlos Condit

AUTHOR: | IN: MMA, UFC | COMMENTS: 4 Comments

Carlos Condit is not the best welterweight in the world. He’s not a freak athletic specimen. He’s not a wrecking machine. Despite what the infallible Tale of the Tape may have led you to believe, Carlos Condit isn’t even a “natural born killer.” Since joining the UFC Condit has not ran through his competition. He does not have a collection of top ten ranked fighters pelts on his wall. He is a skinny punk with substandard wrestling, doomed to never truly crack into the elite. Carlos Condit is mangy. Mangy. Mangy isn’t really a word most elite athletes would want [...]
