Following BJ Penn’s impressive performance at UFC 123, “The Prodigy” will now be looking to get back into the octagon as soon as possible. At the post-fight presser Penn would not commit to which weight class his next fight would be at. He, instead, said he would leave the decision up to UFC president Dana White.
“BJ Penn comes in and and looks like the absolute world beater, best pound-for-pound in the world, and the next fight he doesn’t – you just don’t know,” White said. “I can tell you this – he looks better at 170 than he does at 155. The BJ Penn that walked into the Octagon tonight reminds me of the BJ Penn of old.”
White then told a small group of reporters that he has BJ Penn’s next fight already scheduled, “I already made the fight. Him and Fitch in Sydney.”
The event is UFC 127 which will take place on February 5.
Fitch was originally slated to face Jake Ellenberger at UFC 126 in February. He will instead wait a short while longer to face the former lightweight and welterweight champ.
It will be interesting to see how Penn handles a guy like Fitch. If you ask me, he is tailor made to beat him. Penn’s takedown defense is unbelievable and he has slick jiu jitsu. On the feet, Penn will hold the speed advantage and look to punish Fitch like he just got done doing to Matt Hughes.
Bravo to Dana White for putting this fight on.
