What Is Next For Brock Lesnar?
Former UFC Brock Lesnar is currently serving a six month medical suspension following the savage beating he was handed by Cain Velasquez in the main event of UFC 121. Lesnar could be enjoying this time off and allowing his body to recover all while learning new techniques, but he is instead focusing on his next potential opponent. First, it is being said that Lesnar is going to be offered a third fight with Frank Mir. The first time that the two heavyweights faced off Mir was victorious after he caught Lesnar in a half-assed kneebar. In their second bout, Lesnar [...]
UFC Lightweight Division: Back On Its Feet Again
Back in August, I wrote that the lightweight division had lost its luster. My oh my, how things have changed. What a difference two months makes. Nowadays the lightweight division is looking like the deepest in the UFC. Interesting matchups are limitless. How did this happen in such a short time? The first and most obvious explanation is the UFC/WEC merger. That one announcement brought us Benson Henderson, Anthony Pettis, Donald Cerrone and Jamie Varner. That’s a serious influx of talent right there. I’m particularly interested to see what Henderson and Cerrone can do. Not that I think Smooth necessarily [...]
Ryan Couture — son of UFC Hall of Famer Randy Couture — was forced to withdraw from Strikeforce Challengers XII due to a staph infection. Couture successfully made his pro MMA debut in just over a minute after he submitted Lucas Shark via triangle choke. “I was really looking forward to fighting so this is a big disappointment, but I’ll be back” Couture said. “As soon as I’m cleared, you can bet I’ll be back in the gym preparing for my next Strikeforce fight.” Couture is expected to be out three to four weeks, but there is no word on [...]
Decision machine Jon Fitch has not been given a title shot despite grinding out five-straight victories. In fact, Fitch has only lost once in his last twenty three fights and that was to current 170-pound king Georges St-Pierre. The only reason that Fitch has not received his rematch with GSP yet is, well, because he is an incredibly boring fighter. Fitch’s last seven victories have come by way of decision. Not exciting, technical ground wars either. Just long, boring lay-n-pray decisions. Fitch gets the wins, but he never impresses. He just lays on the guy and neutralizes their strengths. Guys like [...]
