UFC lightweight champion Frankie Edgar fought to a draw at last weekend’s UFC 125: Resolution against top contender Gray Maynard. It was the right decision in an entertaining bout that was a perfect way to kick off MMA in 2011. Some fans were not happy with the decision, but I don’t see how the bout could have been scored anyway. Here is a photo of the official scorecard for the bout, courtesy of HEAVY.com:

In the midst of an impressive start to the new year thanks to UFC 125, Miesha Tate made the comment on her Twitter account that, “Tomorrow my training camp for my Title fight vs Marloes Coenen begins!!” When I followed up and asked Miesha if that put her fight with Coenen for the Strikeforce women’s welterweight title in line for the Strikeforce: Columbus event in March, she responded, “I really hope so! At tonight’s UFC 125 event, light-heavyweight Brandon Vera was embarrassed by a rejuvenated Thiago Silva. At the end of the fight, Silva taunted Vera and slapped him multiple times on way to the dominant decision victory. During the loss, Vera suffered a severely broken nose. Check it out below!

Tonight’s UFC 125 will answer several questions for me.  And I for one am very excited about it. I have to admit, I’m not your average MMA fan.  I don’t neccesarily prefer stand up to ground game.  I don’t always prefer finishes to decisions.  And I don’t tend to think that wrestling based mma fighters are boring. So I’m more excited about the Frankie Edgar vs. Gray Maynard fight than most.  But that’s just me.  I know I’m strange in that and probably a few other aspects. All fighters from tonight’s UFC 125 were asked what their New Year’s resolutions for 2011 were. As you can expect, there wasn’t a serious answer in the bunch. My personal favorite was Dong Hyun Kim, who said his resolution was to “bitch slap Nate Diaz back to the 209.” Check out all of the other UFC 125 participants resolutions below:
