UFC president Dana White has said that former teammates Rashad Evans and Jon Jones will face off against each other some time in September or October. There is no doubt that an unbelievable amount of hype will build as the fight gets closer.
Rashad is now set up at Imperial Athletics in Florida with former Jackson wrestling coach Mike Van Arsdale. Rashad’s former coaches Greg Jackson and Mike Winklejohn, along with Rashad’s friend and former Strikeforce light-heavyweight Champion King Mo, have shared their thoughts on the upcoming bout.
Jackson: “I think everybody has the tools to win. Rashad (Evans) certainly does. If “Rampage” (Jackson) catches you with a big punch he’s got the tools. Everybody’s got the tools to win.”
Winkeljohn: “I love Rashad (Evans) to death. I think he’s much better than people even know. He could be scary for Jon. He has the tools to beat Jon Jones.”
King Mo: “Every man can be beaten. Without a doubt I can beat Jon Jones. I know I can beat Jon Jones. He’s a good fighter, but all it takes is a good game plan, a good camp and I know I would win. My brother Rashad got the tools to beat him too. Rashad’s going to beat him.”
It will be interesting to see how Jon Jones responds to these comments. Jones has proven to be a guy who’s willing to share his mind. However, with the recent history of his quotes being warped to make him look like the bad guy, maybe he will just sit back and use this as motivation for his title fight.
