Former middleweight contender Nate Marquardt will be making the drop to 170-pounds and fighting Anthony “Rumble” Johnson. Episode three of “The Ultimate Fighter 13: Team Lesnar vs. Team Dos Santos” airs tonight on Spike TV at 9pm ET. On tonight’s show, Team Lesnar will try to keep their momentum rolling following Chris Cope’s victory last week. The broadcast brought in 218,000 viewers on MTV2 and became the second most watched event for the organization this season. Bellator 40 was headlined by a welterweight superfight between champion Ben Askren and long-time veteran Nick Thompson. Nick Thompson Retires Following Bellator 40 Loss
Nick “The Goat” Thompson (38 - 14 - 1) dropped his fourth straight bout this past Saturday at the hands of Bellator welterweight champion Ben Askren (8-0). The non-title bout was the headliner for Bellator 40. Thompson was just the latest fighter to fall victim to Askren’s Olympic level wrestling. The UFC veteran could never get it rolling as Askren dominated him for all fifteen minutes. It was not just the latest loss in Thompson’s 53 professional fight career, but it was also the last fight. Bellator welterweight champion Ben Askren walked through UFC veteran Nick Thompson at Bellator 40 in a non-title bout this past weekend. The 26-year-old former Olympian revealed after his win that he will finally be making all of the necessary steps to be a full-time mixed martial artist.
