According to a report earlier today from Mike Chiapetta of MMA Fighting, both UFC 130 main event participants — lightweight champion Frankie Edgar and number one contender Gray Maynard — are both unable to fight after suffering injuries in training. Edgar reportedly broke his ribs, while Maynard is nursing a knee injury.
UFC president Dana White has since confirmed the report.
The loss of the main event is a huge blow to the fight card. With no other replacement, a light-heavyweight bout between Rampage Jackson and Matt Hamill has been promoted to the main event. Roy Nelson vs Frank Mir will be the co-main event and a welterweight battle between Thiago Alves and Rick Story has been pushed to the main card.
Dana White has stated that Edgar vs Maynard III could be rescheduled as early as August or September.
