No group of top level athletes is better at using Twitter to network and socialize with their fans than mixed martial artists. Even before the UFC brilliantly decided it would start giving out “Twitter bonuses” the elite fighters were taking to Twitter to let their true personalities shine.
A growing trend in the MMA-Twitter world is for a fighter to call out another fighter. Most recently, former UFC lightweight and welterweight champion BJ Penn decided to reach out to top welterweight Jake Shields and display an interest in a fight.
I don’t know what to say other than: Thank you Twitter, thank you BJ Penn, and thank you Dana White if you can make this fight happen. Two of the best jiu jitsu players in the sport would be going head to head in what would surely be an epic battle.
