UFC heavyweight Brock Lesnar was forced to withdraw from his UFC 131 bout against Junior Dos Santos when he was stricken with another case of diverticulitis. It is the second time in the top heavyweights career that the illness has sidelined him. In his upcoming book entitled, “Death Clutch: My Story Of Determination, Domination, and Survival,” Lesnar details the pain that was caused to him from diverticulitis. He writes: “I had no clue what was wrong, since they couldn’t get a picture of my stomach. The doctor didn’t know either. He was waiting on the part for the machine. Time [...]
BJ Penn Calls Out Jake Shields
No group of top level athletes is better at using Twitter to network and socialize with their fans than mixed martial artists. Even before the UFC brilliantly decided it would start giving out “Twitter bonuses” the elite fighters were taking to Twitter to let their true personalities shine. A growing trend in the MMA-Twitter world is for a fighter to call out another fighter. Most recently, former UFC lightweight and welterweight champion BJ Penn decided to reach out to top welterweight Jake Shields and display an interest in a fight. I don’t know what to say other than: Thank you [...]

UFC heavyweight Matt Mitrione must have ruffled some feathers of Tito Ortiz with comments he made on The MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani. Here is what Mitrione said that seems to have gotten under Ortiz’s skin and into his gigantic head: “I think it’s awesome…AWESOME that the UFC is finally doing this. I think that it’s a great promotion that they’re finally letting women fight for their man’s honor. I think that’s a great thing. We all know that Tito’s gonna give some type of excuse and back out, so Jenna’s gonna have to step in and fight Bader for [...]
Urijah Faber: “I’m going to go with Nick Diaz on that one, just because I don’t see GSP knocking him out. He’s never been knocked out and GSP’s been more into wrestling guys. I think that from watching Diaz, he’s super, super deceiving, and is able to pressure guys and make them get tired and fatigued like no one else. It’s constant pressure, and he’s got that persistent punching style that wears guys down.” SOURCE: FiveKnuckles.com

Edgar reportedly broke his ribs, while Maynard is nursing a knee injury. UFC president Dana White has since confirmed the report. The loss of the main event is a huge blow to the fight card. With no other replacement, a light-heavyweight bout between Rampage Jackson and Matt Hamill has been promoted to the main event. Roy Nelson vs Frank Mir [...]
