The MMA community has alot to look forward to this weekend, with three cards coming from the top three promotions. It all starts June 24th (Friday) with Strikeforce Challengers 16 and continues on the 25th (Saturday) with Bellator 46 and the Featherweight Tournament Quarterfinals. Finally, all the fun dies down on the 26th (Sunday) with the 4th installment of UFC on Versus.
Each card has a lot to offer, beginning with the Strikeforce Challengers card. That airs live tonight on Showtime starting at 11 p.m. ET. The card is headlined by a lightweight fight between prospects Caros Fodor and James Terry, and co-headlined by a Light Heavyweight barn burner in Lorenz Larkin taking on Gian Villante. The middle of the card has the returning son of “The Natural”, Ryan Couture looks to remain perfect against undefeated Matt Ricehouse. Rounding out the card are two fights bumped up from the preliminaries due to the Villefort Bros. injuries, as veterans Jason High and Quinn Mulhern get it on and Julia Budd looks to bounce back against Germaine de Randamie.
The featherweight quarterfinals begin in the first start of Bellators innagural “Summer Series”. Airing live on MTV2 at 9 p.m. ET, with each winner starting their journey toward a shot at current Featherweight Champion, Joe Warren. The card is stacked with great fighthters including an intriquing matchup of former Lightweight tournament champ Pat Curran, making his Bellator debut at featherweight against Luis Palomino.
Sengoku veteran Malron Sandro makes his Bellator debut against underdog Genair da Silva, while British prospect Ronnie Mann draws American Adam Schindler. The final first round matchup features returning Nazareno Malagerie will take on Jacob DeVree. This is Bellators only card until end of July.
The final card, is also the biggest. UFC on Versus 4 is set to be aired on Versus at 9 p.m. ET on Sunday. It features a main event of the Welterweight debut of Nate Marquardt against late replacment, and very hot Rick Story.
Story is on a 6 fight win streak, and just fought at the end of May. The rest of the card is filled with fighters looking to keep their job. This event is co headlined by Pat Barry taking on French strikerCheick Kongo, in what could be a very entertaining fight. The final two fights on the main card include Heavyweight Matt Mitrione against Christian Morecrafts, and “The Immortal” Matt Brown throwing down with John Howard. Both of which need a win to keep themselves relevant in the division. The UFC is again showing every fight of the night with a Facebook stream airing all of the undercard.
Its a busy weekend of fights, concluding an even busier month. And it starts all over again next weekend with UFC 132. Hopefully all you Cage Pagers out there dont get in to much trouble with the wives. Stay safe, and enjoy the weekend of fights.
