UFC on Fox 2 takes place tomorrow in Chicago with a great card for fans all over. There are two No. 1 contender bouts and the card is good enough to be a pay per view with the names of Sonnen, Bisping and Evans on it. Here are the main card predictions for tonight’s fights.
Demain Maia vs. Chris Weidman
Chris Weidman is fighting on a two week training camp after the Munoz injury. Weidman is a great wrestler and obviously is willing to fight anybody as shown by his willingness to fight on short notice. Look for Weidman to use his wrestling against Maia and try to stay out of submissions. Maia is one of the best BJJ practitioners in the UFC. This fight could turn out to be a stand up battle if neither is willing to go to the ground.
Prediction: Weidman by Unanimous Decision
Chael Sonnen vs. Michael Bisping
Chael Sonnen is probably the best wrestler in the UFC. He was an Olympic alternate and looks to suffocate fighters with constant pressure. While wrestling is his base Sonnen isn’t a one trick pony. He submitted Brian Stann last fight and was able to out strike Anderson Silva in their matchup. He has a better all around game than Bisping and will look to wear him down.
Prediction: Sonnen via 3rd Round Submission
Phil Davis vs. Rashad Evans
After fighting only once in 2011 Evans is looking to make his title run. He’s been the No.1 contender since beating “Rampage” at UFC 114, but injuries have set him back. He’ll fight Phil Davis, a proven wrestler, who will want to do what he does best, pressure him. Evans is the better boxer so look for Davis to take it to the ground. If he can keep him there he will grind out a decision and be the new No. 1 contender.
Prediction: Davis via Unanimous Decision
