The co-main event for UFC 161 will feature Stipe Miocic vs Roy Nelson. Stipe was originally scheduled to fight Soa Palelei on the undercard but in an attempt to “save the card”, the UFC decided to go with a big name and bring in Big Country to fight Miocic in the co-main event.
Stipe Miocic (9-1) is coming off of a KO loss to Stephan Struve. He’s very well-rounded, has heavy power, and is very athletic for a heavyweight.
Roy Nelson (19-7) has racked up 3 straight impressive KO wins in his last 3 fights and is knocking on the door for a title shot. He is a BJJ black belt, has an insanely powerful overhand right, and is also very well-rounded.
Roy Nelson is the favorite going into this fight with Miocic, and most people believe this fight will end the same way his last 3 have. An overhand right putting Stipe to sleep is what I am hearing most of the fans predicting for this fight. However, I disagree. I think Miocic will be very cautious after coming off his last loss and will use more footwork than we have seen from him before. I see Stipe moving in and out, as well as taking this fight to the ground, making this an exciting back and forth fight. I know I will be in the minority for this prediction but I am going to take Stipe Miocic to win via Split Decision.
