As we said before here on Cage Pages the fall for the Ultimate Fighting Championship is getting larger and larger and adding to one of the fall cards will be Gilbert Melendez making his second fight in the UFC and this time it will be against Diego Sanchez.
Gilbert Melendez came to the UFC this past April and he took the Strikeforce Lightweight Title with him. In his debut fight in the UFC he faced off against Benson Henderson for the UFC Lightweight Title on Fox. The fight went to the judges score cards and went in favor to Benson Henderson via split decision. The loss to Henderson was the first loss Melendez had in over four years.
Getting back into the title picture for Melendez won’t be easy he will be facing off against Diego Sanchez this coming fall. Diego Sanchez a very talented fighter in the UFC is looking to continue his winning ways. He last defeated “The Fireball Kid” Takanori Gomi at UFC on Fuel TV: Stann vs. Silva in which Sanchez and Gomi battled it out for three rounds with Sanchez winning via split decision.
Though the event for which this fight has yet to be announced the winner of this bout will put themselves in the right direction to get themselves closer to a title shot after T.J. Grant and Benson Henderson fight it out on UFC on Fox Sports 1 later this summer.
