On the heels of the announcements of Felice Herrig signing with Invicta Fighting Championships and Jessica Eye released from her Bellator contract, there are still waves happening in women’s MMA.
German fighter”The German Tank” Sheila Gaff confirmed her release from the UFC. Gaff was 0-2 with the organization, suffering back-to-back losses to Sara McMann and Amanda Nunes. Prior to stepping into the octagon, she was riding a three-fight winning streak.
It’s not too surprising since the UFC women’s bantamweight division will grow after the next season of “The Ultimate Fighter.” Still, if Gaff can rebound from her losses with a couple of impress wins, she could get a call back from the UFC.
Besides the UFC releasing Gaff, Bellator MMA confirmed the dissolving of their women’s division with the release of Jessica Aguilar, who is considered by many as the top strawweight in the world. With Invicta bringing Herrig into the organization, it will only be a matter of time before they sign Aguilar, as well as Eye.
If they do indeed bring Aguilar on board, this could set up a rematch between her and current Invicta Strawweight champion Carla Esparza.
