Rick Hawn makes good addition to Bellator tournament

Rick “Genghis” Hawn is no stranger to Bellator’s tournament scene.

He was the Season Six Lightweight Tournament winner and the Season Four Welterweight Tournament Runner-up. So it was little surprise when Bellator announced that Hawn would be entering the Bellator Season Nine Welterweight Tournament. The quarterfinals for this 170-tournament will begin scheduled to begin at Bellator 100, Sept. 20.

Although Hawn is a late addition to the tournament, he has a chance to make it to the finals of what is already considered one of Bellator’s most star-studded tournaments. Joining Hawn as a replacement is Strikeforce veteran Ron Keslar, who will be making his debut inside of the Bellator cage.

Former UFC fighter Matt Riddle and prospect Mark Scanlon were originally scheduled to compete in the tournament. Scanlon withdraw drew to an injury he sustained due to injury. Riddle had also pulled out of the tournament due to injury and would later retire from mixed martial arts due to financial reasons.

Hawn will  face Scanlon’s opponent Herman Terrado. Although Hawn has more experience fighting inside of the Bellator cage, Terrado is currently on a seven-fight winning streak and has finished all of his fights. Hawn will be coming into the fight fresh off a second-round knockout win over former WEC Welterweight champion Karo Parisyan.

If Hawn gets past Terrado, there is a chance he could rematch Brent Weedman, if Weedman can get past Justin Baesman. The two faced each other in the finals of the lightweight tournament back at season six where Hawn won by decision.
