Bellator 100 not only marked the beginning of their ninth season welterweight tournament, but also it featured the return of Samoan fighter Siala-Mou Siliga, known around the world as “Mighty Mo.”
Siliga made his debut the preliminaries of Bellator 100 against Dan Charles, who had been previously unbeaten. After two rounds of action, Mighty Mo scored a TKO late in the third round. This would be Siliga’s first MMA fight in three years.
Besides his impressive striking, Mighty Mo showed some impressive takedown defense, as well as resiliency after taking a low blow. The Samoan even delivered a low blow of his own.
Prior to fighting in Bellator, Mighty Mo had previously fought in the United States in Japan. His win over Charles snapped a two-fight losing streak. Siliga’s last MMA fight was against Josh Barnett, where “The Warmaster” submitted him with a kimura in the first round. Barnett had hit Mo with a low blow during the match. After the fight was over, he apologized to Mighty Mo and offered the Samoan fighter the chance to return the favor and knee him in the groin.
This win over a a prospect like Charles may have earned Siliga an opportunity to fight for Bellator in the future. Although he is 43 years old and only has six fights under his belt, he could still make waves in the promotion’s heavyweight division. He is a multiple time K-1 kickboxing champion and has been improving on his takedown defense.
Bellator’s Season 9 Heavyweight tournament is scheduled to begin in October. Although Siliga may not be eligible to compete by that time, he could be ready for a tournament in the next couple of seasons.
