UFC and Strikeforce veteran Fabricio Werdum has avenged one loss and is looking to avenge another.

In an interview with MMAFighting.com, Werdum said UFC President Dana White revealed to him that he would be facing the winner of the Cain Velasquez vs. Junior dos Santos heavyweight championship match at UFC 166. White also said that the Brazilian jiu-jitsu champion would most likely be the next contender for the title.

It doesn’t surprise me that Werdum would be getting a crack at the title. He is on a three-fight winning streak, with his latest victory coming over Antonio Rodgrio Nogueira, who defeated him in the opening round of the Pride 2006 Open Weight Grand Prix. Besides his recent wins, Werdum has earned victories over the likes of Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva, Brandon Vera and Fedor Emelianenko.

The person he seeks to defeat is dos Santos, who defeated Werdum back in 2008 by knockout.

Werdum has improved immensely since his first clash with dos Santos. Although the former UFC Heavyweight champion has the best boxing in the heavyweight division, Werdum’s own striking has improved in his last few fights.

However there may be a chance that Werdum will face Velasquez. If this happens, it will be the classic wrestler vs. jiu-jitsu match.
