UFC should give Jessamyn Duke and Raquel Pennington contracts

On the last episode of “The Ultimate Fighter: Team Rousey vs. Team: Tate” MMA fans witnessed one of the best fights in the show’s history.

Team Rousey’s Jessamyn “The Gun” Duke took on Team Tate’s Raquel “Rocky” Pennington. After three rounds of nonstop back-and-forth action, Pennington earned a decision victory and eliminated Duke from the tournament.

Many fans and critics have compared this fight to the match between Forrest Griffin and Stephan Bonnar in the finals of the first “TUF” finale back in 2005. In that fight, both Griffin and Bonnar were awarded UFC contracts. It should be no different for Duke and Pennington, even though “The Ultimate Fighter” still has some episodes to air.

Both Duke and Pennington are top prospects in women’s MMA and will no doubt bring some depth to the UFC Women’s Bantamweight division.

I am sure Duke will compete on the “TUF:18“ finale as past contestants have done, despite being eliminated on the show. If Pennington loses to the winner of the upcoming Sarah Moras vs. Peggy Morgan fight, which should take place in two weeks, I would not mind seeing Duke and Pennington lock horns once again at the finale.

If Pennington wins the competition, I’m sure that we will see her and Duke clash once more.

Duke and Pennington put on one hell of a a show that would certainly get Fight of the Season, if the UFC decides to implement that bonus. Imagine if they fought in Mandalay Bay, on a UFC Pay Per View.

The ideal scenario as I see it would be for Rocky to win the contract, and her first PPV bout ought to be against Duke. This is a money fight, and the UFC would be foolish to leave money on the table. The reason why this would be an ideal situation is the hype this fight would get. Duke cuts a promo, talks about how Pennington caused her dream, and how she is out for redemption. Any fight that can cause tugs on the emotions of fans always sell better. The same way why I expect the Tate / Rousey to do extremely well in buy rates.
