MMA veteran Felice “Lil’ Bulldog” Herrig will make her long-awaited Invicta FC debut.
Herrig will face undefeated prospect Tecia “The Tiny Tornado” Torres at Invicta FC 7, Dec. 7. This match between the Lil’ Bulldog and the Tiny Tornado will be nothing short of exciting, especially if both athletes keep the fight on the feet.
When Invicta signed Herrig, I knew that she would be going to a promotion where she will be fighting the some of the best strawweights in the world. I also knew that Invicta FC would not be giving her an easy match for her first time in the Invicta cage. As for Torres, this will be a big step up in competition.
Although this is a classic veteran vs. prospect bout, both fighters have similar styles, especially when it comes to the stand up game. Herring has had an edge in striking in most of her fights due to her kickboxing background, but Torres comes in with an equally impressive Muay Thai resume.
Both fighters are also good at getting out of tight spots and keeping their composure in tough situations. Fans saw this with Herrig in her fight against Heather Jo Clark, who had her trapped in a clinch and peppered her with punches, yet Herrig was able to minimize the damage. They also saw this when Rose Namajunas trapped Torres in her patented flying armbar and Torres not only broke free of the submission, but also follow it up with several punching combinations.
The one edge Herrig could have in this fight would be her overall fighting experience. She’s gone 9-4 in her professional career. Still, Torres is 3-0 and went 7-0 as an amateur in the span of one year.
If Torres defeats Herrig in an impressive fashion, this could push her one step closer toward the Invicta FC Strawweight championship. The same could be said for Herrig if she defeats The Tiny Tornado and Claudia Gadelha defeats Carla Esparza for the championship.
