Barb Honchak and Leslie Smith get first crack at main event status

For Invicta FC Flyweight champion Barb “The Little Warrior” Honchak and challenger Leslie “The Peacemaker” Smith, the opportunity to fight at the top of an Invicta card has been along time coming.

Honchak will defend her championship against  Smith in the main event, the first time for both fighters, of Invicta FC 7, Dec. 7. In addition to the 125-pound title match, Carla Esparza will defend her strawweight strap against Claudia Gadelha while Lauren Murphy and Miriam Nakamoto will fight to determine the promotion’s first bantamweight champion.

Although the strawweight and bantamweight title matches will surely be great contests, both Honchak and Smith have earned their way to the main event.

In one corner you have Smith, who is perhaps one of the most – if not the most – entertaining fighter on the Invicta FC roster. She has earned three “Fight of the Night” bonuses and her wars with Kaitlin Young, Sarah Kaufman and  Jennifer Maia have kept fans on the edge of their seat.

In the other corner you have Honchak, who has put together a string of wins over tough opponents on her path toward the Invicta FC Featherweight title.

One thing that will make this fight exciting is how evenly matched the combatants are. Both fighters have amazing ground skills, they are aggressive and they have faced some of the most dangerous fighters in all of women’s MMA. They also come from great camps, Smith from Ceaser Gracie  an Honchak from Miletich Fighting Systems.

Invicta FC 7 is already slated to be an exciting card and with a main event like Honchak vs. Smith, the promotion will surely end the 2013 in a high note.
