For former Strikeforce Women’s Bantamweight champion Sarah Kaufman, competing in her first UFC fight was a dream come true.
She competed at UFC 166 against Jessica “Evil” Eye, who was also stepping into the octagon for the first time. After three rounds of what turned out to be a close match, Eye came out on top of the judges’ score cards. Nevertheless, the former Strikeforce champion made her octagon debut on what many have hailed as the best UFC fight card in history.
Despite losing the match, Kaufman has shown that she can still stand with the best fighters in the world. That just leaves the question: who is her next opponent?
One fighter I would like to see fight Kaufman – besides Alexis Davis and Kaitlin Young – is former UFC title contender Liz Carmouche.
The two previously fought in 2011 in Strikeforce. Carmouche was coming off a loss to Marloes Coenen in their Strikeforce Women’s Bantamweight title fight while Kaufman recently defeated Megumi Yabushita at AFC 5: Judgement Day. The fight was close, but Kaufman wound end up getting the judges’ decision.
Since they fought, both Carmouche and Kaufman have had wins and losses. If they stepped into the cage again, it would be as of a scrap as their first fight. Both fighters have power and can put on an exciting fight for fans. I think this fight would be better than the first because they are looking to bounce back from defeat and begin their quest for a UFC title shot.
