Anthony Pettis vs. Josh Thomson removed from Fox card

Fans who ready to see UFC Lightweight champion Anthony “Showtime” Pettis defend his championship for the first time will have to wait.

“Fox Sports “Live” announced that an injured Pettis would be dropping out his scheduled title defense against former Strikeforce Lightweight champion Josh Thomson at the UFC on Fox 9, Dec. 14. Pettis had originally been slated to defend his title against No. 1 contender T.J. Grant, who had to pull out of the title fight due to injury.

As a result of Pettis’ injury, the UFC has shifted a couple of their upcoming main events. The rematch between UFC Flyweight champion Demeitrious “Mighty Mouse” Johnson and challenger Joseph Benavidez, originally scheduled to take place on the “The Ultimate Fighter: Team Rousey vs. Team Tate Finale,” will move to the main event slot of on the Dec. 14 card.

Taking the place of Johnson vs. Benavidez II on the “TUF” finale, Nov. 30, will be the rubber match between “TUF 5“ winner Nate Diaz and former 155-pound title contender Gray Maynard. Diaz

There is no word if Thomson will be given a replacement fight.
