The injury bug continues to hit the Dec. 14 UFC on Fox 9 event.
A couple of days after it was announced that the lightweight title bout between champion Anthony “Showtime” Pettis and Josh “The Punk” Thomson was scrapped due to Pettis being hurt, reports are saying that “The Ultimate Fighter 17,” winner Kelvin Gastelum and former WEC Lightweight Jamie Varner are now removed from the card due to injuries.
Gastelum, was scheduled to take on “The Ultimate Fighter 11“ winner Court McGee in a welterweight bout while Varner was slated to face former MFC Welterweight champion Pat Healy.
The UFC is currently seeking out replacement opponents for both fighters. For the most part the promotion is good about getting replacement fights on short notice. If Healy was willing to move up in weight, I would say have him move back up to welterweight to face McGee. It could even be a catchweight contest.
