Update: Nov. 14, 6:07 MST
During the pre-fight press conference, UFC President Dana White said the title match between Jones and Teixeira will not be taking place at UFC 170. He also said the fight is more likely to happen in March.
The time and place for long-awaited bout between UFC Light Heavyweight champion Jon “Bones” Jones and challenger Glover Teixeira is now known to the MMA world.
UFC officials announced that the Jones vs. Teixeira title match will take place at UFC 170, Feb. 22 2014, at the Mandalay Bay Arena in Las Vegas.
The bout had been previously targeted for UFC 169, Feb. 4, back in October; however UFC President Dana White said the promotion’s public relations team was not supposed to release the news.
Both the champion and challenger have been outstanding in their current UFC runs. Jones is currently on a 10-fight winning streak and is coming off of a “Fight of the Year” performance against challenger Alexander “The Mauler” Gustafsson. As for Teixiera, he has won his last 20 fights with dominating victories over stars such as Quinton “Rampage” Jackson, Ryan Bader and James Te Huna.
It is likely that the winner of this bout will meet Gustafsson, should he defeat undefeated English fighter Jimi “Poster Boy” Manuwa. Their fight will take place in at the UFC event in London, in March.
No other fights for the event have been revealed at this time.
