It has been nearly a year since Strikeforce closed its doors with most of its top talent moving to the UFC.
Although the promotion is no more, there is no denying that it had several memorable bouts and beloved fighters, one of them being former welterweight champion Nick Diaz.
During his run as the 170-pound kingpin, Diaz was regarded by many as the No. 1 welterweight not to be signed by the UFC. Fans, critics and Diaz himself were waiting for the day when the Stockton, Calif., native would get a chance to fight Georges St-Pierre.
The video you are about to see features Diaz making his second welterweight title defense against Evangelista “Cyborg” Santos, in January 2011.
Although his wife Cris made a name for herself as the most dominant female fighter in Strikeforce at that time, Evangelista was a jounreyman who had success at middleweight. After he finished Marius Žaromskis in his debut at 170 pounds, Strikeforce put him up against Diaz.
