2014 didn’t start the way Dominick Cruz was hoping for – he is out as the UFC Bantamweight Champion.

The title of champion now solely belongs to Renan Barao, who will now defend his title against the undisputed number one contender, Urijah Faber in the main event of UFC  169.

Cruz, who’s been out for more than two years recovering from an ACL tear, suffered a groin tear, forcing him out of the fight with Barao, which was to unify the title.

There is no word on how long Cruz will be out this time out.
