Fearing a potential huge snow storm in East Rutherford, New Jersey—the location where this year’s Superbowl XLVIII between the Denver Broncos and the Seattle Seahawks will be held—the UFC has prepared for the worst. The worst being if the highest viewed sporting event in North America were to reschedule their event next weekend for the Saturday night (Feb. 1, 2014)—the same night that UFC has scheduled their annual Superbowl weekend fight card (UFC 169: Barao vs Faber, also in New Jersey), in anticipation of the huge crowds that are expected to be in town to take in the Superbowl. If this were to happen, the UFC has plans to move the event from Saturday to Sunday, February 2, 2014.
In the UFC on FOX 10 post-fight press conference, UFC Director of Public Relations, Dave Sholler announced: “As you know next weekend is UFC 169 in Newark, we’re keeping an eye on what happens with the Superbowl in the event of bad weather. We’re coming up with a contingency plan as a result, if and only if, they move the Superbowl to Saturday, we will move UFC 169 to Sunday. It obvious requires a lot of coordination with the venue, the fighters, and our TV production crews around the world. So again we will be monitoring the situation very closely, we will only make the change if the Superbowl moves.”
