The UFC announced on Monday that the third installment of TUF Brazil—which features coaches and bitter rivals, Chael Sonnen and Wanderlei Silva—will airing exclusively on their new UFC Fight Pass, with the first episode premiering on Sunday March 9, 2014 at 10pm EST, and every episode there after will be uploaded the following Sunday. Prior to this announcement, there were discussions about possibly airing episodes on Fox Sports 1.
TUF Brazil 3 will feature fighters in both the middleweight and heavyweight divisions vying for a shot to compete in the UFC.
The previous two seasons of TUF Brazil have been airing and will continue to air on Globo TV in Brazil, which has drawn upwards of 10 million viewers per episode. As for the rest of the world, the first two seasons had been made available on UFC.com for free, but season 3 will cost viewers that wish to watch.
The UFC Fight Pass free trial period ends on February 28th, 2014, so for fans wanting to watch this feud play out over 13 episodes leading up to their eventual light heavyweight fight—which will also take place on UFC Fight Pass—will have to pay the $9.99 per month to subscribe to the online product.
UFC released a video on UFC Fight Pass featuring Coach Chael Sonnen discussing his experience so far in his second stint as an Ultimate Fighter coach (video can be seen below):
As for his competitor and opposite coach Wanderlei Silva, Sonnen had this to say,
“I compare him to an onion, you peel him back and there just keeps being layers, and it’s tough. You know the cartoon? where the guy gets super angry and he runs out of ideas and then smoke starts coming out of his ears? That’s happened with Wanderlei a couple of times, out of nowhere, where I’m just like ‘I’m not really sure what just set you off there’. But I can see him running out of words and the smoke starts coming out of his ears.”
The long budding feud between Wanderlei Silva an Chael Sonnen dates all the way back to 2010, when the two fighters were sharing a conversation in a van on their way to visit the Texas State Capitol and Wanderlei confronted Chael about some comments he made.
Update: According to UFC President Dana White, the coaching feud came to physical blows when one of Wanderlei’s coaches sucker punched Chael Sonnen.
