Featherweight Prospects Fili, Holloway Matched Up For UFC 172

Andre Fili has been matched up with fellow featherweight prospect Max Holloway in an intriguing bout set for UFC 172 in Baltimore, MD. Fili made one of the more memorable debuts in 2013, destroying Jeremy Larsen en route to a second round TKO victory. One of the more impressive things to take from that fight was that it was Fili’s debut at featherweight, dropping down a whole 35 lbs from welterweight. Holloway, meanwhile, will be looking to continue the momentum brought on by his overwhelming win over Will Chope at UFC Singapore earlier this month.

Fili has just one blemish on his 14 fight career, and fights out of the coveted Team Alpha Male alongside the likes of Urijah Faber, Joseph Benavidez and Chad Mendes. His lone loss was via a knee injury in the fifth round of a title fight against Derrick Burnsed, and he has since rebounded with ten straight victories, including his UFC debut. He showed no signs of Octagon jitters during the debut, despite the big drop down in weight and his young age of 23. He will look to continue his early signs of promise with a victory over Max Holloway.

Max Holloway has made a promising start to his UFC career, and despite setbacks remains one of the more talked-about prospects around. What is most impressive is that his only losses have come against guys currently in-and-around the title picture at 145, in Dustin Poirier, Dennis Bermudez and Conor McGregor. The Bermudez fight in particular was a fight many considered to be a robbery, and the Poirier and McGregor bouts were both taken on short notice. He currently holds a 4-3 record under the UFC banner, and will be hoping to make it five with a victory over the promising Andre ‘Touchy’ Fili.

UFC 172 takes place at Baltimore Arena in Baltimore, MD. on April 26, which is headlined by a light heavyweight title tilt between Glover Teixiera and current champ Jon Jones.
