On Monday, TMZ posted a video of former UFC welterweight Champion, Georges St. Pierre and current UFC Light Heavyweight Champion, Jon Jones in what TMZ dubbed as an ‘awkward encounter’ outside a club in New York during Super Bowl weekend, claiming that Jones had tried to duck GSP.
Today TMZ caught up with Jon Jones once again, and he explained the situation.
“It’s funny you ask that. Nah listen, Georges is my boy. And that was TMZ doing what TMZ does best, starting up some controversy, some drama.” Jones said. “What really happened was I didn’t see him. So when TMZ was like ‘yo you’re with Jones?’, I was trying to be like this, ‘nah I’m not with that dude’. When I turned around and that dude was Georges I was like ‘OH! that’s my boy Georges!’ “—“It was TMZ trying to start up some mess pretty much.”
And if you haven’t already seen the original video referenced by Jon Jones, it shows the two Jackson’s MMA teammates initially not noticing each other outside the club until the cameraman from TMZ makes GSP aware that Jones is behind him. And what followed was a hilarious ‘HEYYYYYYYYY’ greeting:
