After the announcement of Donald Cerrone vs. Edson Barboza on Monday, UFC officials have confirmed three more bouts for the stacked UFC on Fox 11 card, which will be headlined by a pivotal heavyweight clash between Fabricio Werdum and Travis Browne. The card is set for April 19 at the Anyway Centre in Orlando, FL, and will also see women’s bantamweight contenders Meisha Tate and Liz Carmouche square off.
Arguably the most exciting and vital bout of the three to be announced is the lightweight tilt between the men ranked #6 and #7 respectively – Rafael Dos Anjos and Khabib Nurmagomedov. Dos Anjos is coming into the bout on the back of his most impressive win yet over mainstay top 10 fighter Donald Cerrone, which now brings his win streak to five. A win over the Russian could be all it takes to get him a shot at UFC gold, but in the stacked lightweight division, anyone can emerge as a contender with an impressive win over a top guy. Khabib, meanwhile, has been campaigning diligently for a fight against a top fighter, and has just that in the Brazilian Dos Anjos.
Brad Tavares will square off with Yoel Romero in a battle between top 15 middleweights who are both coming off wins at UFC Fight Night 35. Tavares defeated Lorenz Larkin via unanimous decision, while Romero secured a come-from-behind knockout victory over Derek Brunson. The Hawaiian, Tavares, is now riding an impressive five fight win streak and will be in contention for a top 10 spot with a win over Yoel Romero. However, the Cuban will be a tough test as he is one of the strongest wrestlers in the 185 division and is coming into the fight with a three fight winning streak, all via (T)KO.
The last bout to be announced was a battle between lightweights Pat Healy and Jorge Masvidal. Both were top contenders in Strikeforce, but are coming into the bout needing a win to stay relevant in the 155lbs division. Healy has lost two in a row over Khabib Nurmagomedov and Bobby Green, while Masvidal lost his last fight to Rustam Khabilov after an impressive victory over Michael Chiesa. With both needing a win, this could be an exciting clash between the two veterans, and this could be the end of any title hopes for the loser.
