What started out as a slow week news wise, definitely turned around as we head into Saturday’s UFC Fight Night 36 card.

TUF Nations Cast Member Released Before He Started

Tyler Manawaroa looked like a very good prospect from the outset of this season of TUF Nations. After last week, he looked like a legitimate contender to win the whole show. Now he’s unlikely to ever fight in the UFC again. News came out that Manawaroa posted a racially insensitive image to his Instagram account, leading to his immediate release from the UFC. It really brings into question how accountable fighters need to be for what they say, and more specifically what they post, when it comes to social media. Age is never an excuse to be an idiot, but a 19 year old is allowed to make mistakes. What 19 year old hasn’t? The fact he claims that he was 17 when he posted the image doesn’t excuse his behaviour but it does provide him and the UFC with an opportunity to learn and grow from the experience. I’m disappointed with the decision – he made a terrible mistake deserves a chance to prove he’s grown as a human being and can be a proper representative for the sport.

Changes to UFC Bonuses

Scrapping the knock out and submission of the night bonuses in favour of performance of the night bonuses seems like a step in the right direction. Fighter’s who put on a great performance will be rewarded with more money, as opposed to just online accolades. However, I’m still debating as to whether this will lead to more or less finishes?

Here’s Jacob Cooper’s take on the story

Drugs, Drugs, Drugs

If you are a listener to the great podcast “The Joe Rogan Experience” you know that the issue of marijuana as a banned substance in MMA is something that people don’t take lightly. Everyone has a different view on the topic, and will find some online study that proves their point one way or another. Quite frankly, I find it hard to believe it does anything to enhance the performance of a fighter. This entire Eye situation is ridiculous – people seem to more upset about her lying, than the act itself. It’s a complete mess of a situation, from Eye to the Texas sports commission’s handling of the situation.

Other Things to Check Out:

I really loved the piece from our newest writer Jessie Lorenty on the lack of momentum UFC Fight Pass has in its early inception. Any piece that finishes with:

So after the Manuwa and Gustafsson fight I’m going to have to do some soul searching to see if I want to give it a little more time to come through on what it promised or save my money, revisit that bag of Cheetos and start a six hour marathon of Vampire Diaries.
