Jessica Eye tested positive for marijuana, not blood thinners

Unfortunately for Jessica ‘Evil’ Eye, the distractions from her upcoming fight with Alexis Davis go on. After it was first speculated that Eye tested positive for blood thinners relating to her 2002 car accident, in which the bantamweight suffered a broken back, now it is confirmed her failed drug test was for something completely different. Eye’s controversial split decision win over Sarah Kaufman was overturned by the Texas Athletic Commission last week despite being over three months removed from the event.

Eye confirmed the report by Bloody Elbow‘s Brent Brookhouse on Saturday, appearing on the MMA Hour after taking to Twitter to deny Brookhouse’s article. Her failed drug test was due to cannabinoids, the most important component of marijuana. As the drug is not a performance enhancer, her fight with Alexis Davis at UFC 170 will still take place, but she has received a one-year probated suspension and a $1,875 fine. The #6 ranked women’s bantamweight standout has since deleted her Twitter account, but our friends over at FanSided were able to capture her tweets denying Bloody Elbow’s reports.

Lmao …. Just going to smile back and ignore all the BS … Y’all can speculate whatever you want ..

Her appearance on the MMA Hour cleared the air on the matter, and now Jessica Eye will be hoping to put this bad period behind her with a pivotal win over Alexis Davis on 22 February. Find below some quotes from Eye, as transcribed by MMAFighting.

“I don’t want to say anything for anyone to use against me, but there were some mistakes that I made on my behalf that I didn’t give enough knowledge [to the commission] ahead of time,”

“It was my first UFC fight, there was a lot of things going on. That was the first time I’ve ever fought in a different state. I mean, I fought in Atlantic City and Ohio, and I thought I’ve always done things properly, and you know what, it was a mistake on my behalf, and I’m going to continue to fix it. I can’t help what allegations or what things that people want to bring up.”
