Ryan Ford meets Joel Powell for the World Series of Fighting Canada Welterweight Championship

World Series of Fighting Canada (formerly Aggression Fighting Championship) has announced their main event for the debut show on February 21, 2014, it will be a WSOF Canadian Welterweight Championship fight between Ryan Ford (21-4) and Joel Powell (7-3). The event will take place in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada at the Edmonton Expo Centre.

Ryan Ford has been a staple of Canadian MMA, fighting for multiple promotions over his career including Maximum Fighting Championship, Bellator MMA, and the former Aggression Fighting Championship. Ford captured the AFC welterweight championship in his last fight, defeating fellow Canadian Michael Hill by 5th round submission. The 31 year old comes into this fight riding a 5 fight win streak and will once again be fighting in front of his hometown crowd in Edmonton.

Joel Powell trains out of Hamilton Muay Thai in Hamilton, Ontario, of his 7 wins, 3 are via tko/ko and 2 via submission. The 33 year old has a common opponent with Ford, also defeating Michael Hill in his previous fight for AFC 18, via split decision.

The full fight card has been announced for WSOF Canada, it features a co-main event between heavyweights Smealinho Rama (6-1) vs Steve Mocco (4-0). Rama looks to rebound from his first career loss—suffering a knockout to Anthony Hamilton in a MFC heavyweight title fight. While 2008 U.S. Olympian wrestler—and lone non-Canadian on the entire card—Mocco hopes to continue his undefeated streak against his toughest opponent to date.

Also apart of the main card is another matchup between Canadian welterweights Michael Hill (6-2) and Ryan Dickson (6-1). Fresh off a 2nd round TKO victory at WSOF 7 over Richard Arsenault—TUF 16 cast member—Hill returns north of the border against a grappler in Dickson–who has 5 of his wins come by way of submission.

The undercard features a heavyweight matchup between two notable names, former UFC heavyweight Tim “The Trashing Machine” Hague (15-8) takes on 46 year old, Lee Mein (6-12)—father and trainer of top Canadian welterweight, Jordan.
