UFC Fight Night 36: Scorecards and Statistics

For the second consecutive event, the fans were treated to a card at UFC Fight Night 36, that set the record for most decisions on a single event with 10 fights going the distance in Jaraguá do Sul, Brazil. Of those, we had 3 split decisions and one very questionable unanimous decision, all on the undercard.

First the main event, which saw Lyoto Machida take a (50-45, 50-45, 49-46) unanimous decision over Gegard Mousasi. However strangely the strike totals heavily favour Mousasi, out-landing Machida 36-28 in significant strikes and 66-35 overall strikes:

Now on to the close / controversial decisions.

Rodrigo Damm def Ivan Jorge via Unanimous Decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28):

Stats for the fight not currently available.

MMA Decisions has it nearly a 50/50 split with half of the fans and media scoring it for Damm and the other half for Jorge–both 29-28.

Fransico Trinaldo def. Jesse Ronson via Split Decision (29-28, 28-29, 30-27):

Stats for the fight not currently available.

The Canadian Ronson, clearly disagreed with the 30-27 scorecard tweeting:

Although, the fans and media felt differently, with all but one media member scoring it for Trinaldo–30-27 (2), 29-28 (7). And all fans scoring it for Trinaldo, 30-27 (25%), 29-28 (75%)

Iuri Alcanatara def. Wilson Reis via Split Decision (30-27, 30-27, 28-29):

Stats for the fight not currently available.

I thought this fight was a lot closer than a 30-27 for Alcantara, it seems the media did as well, with 5 scoring it for Reis (29-28) and 5 scoring it for Alcantara (29-28). With a majority of the fans (57%) scoring it 29-28 for Alcanatara as well. However with the fans it was a 71% to 29% split in favour of Alcantara winning.

Ildemar Alcantara def. Albert Tumenov via Split Decision (30-27, 29-28, 28-29):

Stats for the fight not currently available.

The surprising lone judge that scored it for Alberto Tumenov—who had an outstanding 1st round but faded in the next 2—(29-28), Marco Borges, was disagreed upon by the majority of the media—10 in favour of Alcantara 29-28 to just 3 for Tumenov 29-28. As well as 82% of the fans scoring it for Alcantara 29-28.
