UFC 170 weigh-in results: Rousey vs. McMann cleared

The women’s bantamweight title will be on the line Saturday night, with Olympic judo bronze medallist and UFC champion Ronda Rousey squaring off with Olympic wrestling silver medallist Sara McMann. Both fighters are unbeaten hitherto in their young MMA careers, with the champion winning all of her fights by way of armbar submission, while McMann has finished four of her seven opponents coming into the bout with Rousey.

‘Rowdy’ Ronda is 8-0 including two UFC title defences so far, and will look to break the unbeaten streak of her fellow Olympian Sara McMann. Rousey is a heavy favourite coming into the fight, especially considering her coming into the fight just two months after her last fight, compared to McMann’s 10 month layoff. Both fighters made weight for the pivotal clash, and the event will go ahead with an intriguing main event.

Elsewhere, Daniel Cormier will make his light heavyweight debut against UFC newcomer Patrick Cummins, who replaced Rashad Evans on 10 days notice. Cummins is 4-0 as a professional, fighting just twice in the last two years, and he is predictably a heavy underdog coming into the fight. Cormier will hope to announce himself to his new division in impressive fashion, but he fights an opponent that is a major step down from his original opponent, Evans.

Rory MacDonald will hope to bounce back from a recent loss, facing Demian Maia in a crucial welterweight tilt. TJ Waldburger and Mike Pyle will square off at 170lbs, as will TUF winner Robert Whittaker and karate expert Stephen Thompson. The preliminary card also exhibits some intriguing fights with divisional implications, including Jessica Eye vs. Alexis Davis and Raphael Assuncao vs. Pedro Munhoz.
