Yushin Okami’s WSOF Debut set for WSOF 9

According to MMAFighting’s Dave Doyle, Yushin Okami’s debut for the World Series of Fighting will take place on their upcoming card WSOF 9: Carl vs Palhares. Yushin Okami is scheduled to face Bulgarian Svetlozar Savov (12-4) at the Hard Rock Casino & Hotel in Las Vegas on March 29th.

The Japanese middleweight caused an uproar within the MMA community when he was released by the UFC after just one loss to Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza. It was not long before WSOF came knocking to sign one of the best middleweights in the world, just a few weeks after being released, WSOF signed Okami to a contract in October of 2013. The one-time title challenger, is 3-1 in his last four bouts with wins over Hector Lombard, Alan Belcher, and Buddy Roberts. Okami accomplished a record of 13-5 fighting for the ZUFFA promotion, but will now set his sights on the fellow middleweights in the WSOF, starting with Svetlozar Savov.

Svetlozar Savov is the WFC Middleweight Champion, and will also be making his debut on WSOF 9. 8 of his 12 wins come by way of submission. At just 25 years old, he’s been fighting since 2010, and will make his debut coming off a win at WFC 17 over Bojan Velickovic via unanimous decision.
